Introduction

The Preakness Stakes is the second leg of the Triple Crown and will be held on May 18, 2024, at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. The race is open to three-year-old Thoroughbreds and is run at a distance of 1 3/16 miles on dirt. The Preakness Stakes is one of the most prestigious races in American horse racing and has been won by some of the greatest horses in history, including Secretariat, Man o' War, and Affirmed.

Analysis

Epicenter is the clear favorite in the 2024 Preakness Stakes. The son of Not This Time has won four of his five starts, including the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile and the Grade 2 Risen Star Stakes. He is also the reigning champion of the Kentucky Derby.

Creative Minister is the second choice and is coming off a win in the Grade 1 Florida Derby. He is a son of Creative Cause and is trained by Kenny McPeek. Forte is the third choice and is coming off a win in the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby. He is a son of Violence and is trained by Todd Pletcher.

Arabian Knight and Secret Oath are both longshots but have a chance to upset the favorites. Arabian Knight is a son of Uncle Mo and is trained by Bob Baffert. Secret Oath is a daughter of Arrogate and is trained by D. Wayne Lukas.
